The RX-792P really was a design of its own. The engine was similar in the number of rotors and most other areas tot he Le Mans-winning 787B from 1991, but the rest of the RX-792P was an entirely American production with no roots to the Mazda production cars of the day.

CURIOUS: Was the RX-792P machine inspired by the RX-7 series of road / race cars (i.e. FC3s, FD3S, RX7 LM ), or was the relationship, if any, the other way around? Any developmental connections to those awesome 787B model(s) ??
